This isn't quite true the Egyptians worshiped goats (Banebdjedet the ram-g-d in Mendes) and yet the Israelites sacrificied them to G-d and ate them. The most obvious reason their are no cats in the Bible is that they are uneccesary. They aren't kosher, can't be used as a sacrifice, and really don't matter when the Bible's subject matter is about the Supreme King of the Universe and his law. It's kind of like asking "why we don't mention hippos in the constitution?"

I don't buy it, if cats are not mentioned in the Bible because Egyptians loved them and the Isrialites hated anything Egyptians loved, this logic suggests the opposite as well, so the Isrialites loved vermin. I suspect that cats, and a lot of other animals as well, were not particularly reverent in the stories of the Bible. After all the Bible is about the human condition and mankind's relationship with God and cats simply didn't come into play.

This really makes me ill for some reason. The translating with the cat is just silly. When Gods word says,"there is to be nothing added or taken from his word".I feel this is just such a mockery of Jesus Christ our Lord. The ONE who DIED for all of us!*I mean I can see humor and I feel God would truly be offended and hurt by this.I just feel it is very hurtful to me for HIS NAMESAKE!I love Jesus and it hurts me deeply. This is just my opinion. Thanks for listening.

Specifically, Roger, a Lion is not a cat. Technically, it would be though :).

Is there proof that Israelites despised cats? They hated dogs too, and they made it into the bible. However, some Israelites were shepherds, and having dogs around would have made their job a lot easier, so it's entirely possible, I think, for them to have had dogs, and found them valuable.

Daniel was thrown to the lions, lions lie down with lambs, and leopards show up every so often too. But there are no mentions of domestic cats or their ancestors in the bible, as far as I know.

For those who grew and stored grain, cats surely hung around and killed all the rats, which I think they would have been loved for. But apparently not enough to get into their sacred books, or at least the ones we know of.

[...] I give you the LOLcat Bible! I assume this is meant to correct a grievous oversight, but it looks like an example of taking a joke way too far. Kind of like the Klingon Bible. [...]
