How Can I Tell If My Cat Is Pregnant

July 14th, 2007 · 1 Comment

There are several telltale signs to look for. These develop at different stages of gestation:

  • The earliest point at which you will be able to tell is between 14 and 21 days after mating. Close examination of the pregnant female’s nipples will reveal that they are slightly enlarged and pink, and this is an early indication that she has kittens on the way.
  • Later on, the ventral or belly area will show signs of enlargement and the underbelly fur mat appear more dense than usual.
  • During the 30- to 40-day period, it should become more obvious from the weight gain and distended belly that your cat is carrying kittens towards full term, at 60-65 days.
