Most commonly, a coughing cat is attempting to regurgitate a developing fur ball with its vomit. In other cases, the cat may have consumed grass in order to bring up a digestive irritation or fur ball. In rare cases, the coughing may be a sign of feline calici virus: If you have any suspicions that this may be the cause of your cat’s coughing, veterinary help should be sought.

Okay VERY important!!! A coughing cat can be a huge sign of feline asthma, often, terribly often, overlooked. My cat was 10 years old, coughing her whole life, when FINALLY a vet said, it’s asthma, not hairballs. So Check it out. Meds can help slow progression of disease. And spread the word! : )

I love the picture that accompanies this post. It’s quite undignified, which I think is appropriate retribution for some of the silliness to which some of our kitties subject us!

It could be bronchitis, cat asthma. My cat had the same problem.
It’s really important you take your cat to the vet and ask that they check her for bronchitis.
It took over 2 years before I found a vet who could tell me what was wrong with my cat.
But now she is all better. Medicine and shots keep her happy and healthy.
