What Is The Snowshoe Cat?

July 17th, 2007 · 1 Comment

Snowshoe cats from the USA display distinctive white paws. They are sometimes known as Silver Laces. This distinctively white-footed cat was developed in the USA in the 1960s. It arose from a series of crosses between Siamese cats and American short-hairs and is rarely found outside North America. There are two different patterns of Snowshoe cat: the mitted, which has little white, and the bi-colour which has more white on the body and face. Purists among Siamese breeders often express concern that the ‘snowshoe’ markings will cross over into the much older breed via indiscriminate mating.

This breed are very affectionate with quiet voices, but, surprisingly, they can also be very talkative.

My family adopted our beautiful showshoe cat , who we named Calvin, from pet finders. We did not know what kind of cat he was, just that he had very different markings. It wasn’t until we took him to the vet that we found out he is a snowshoe. Since then I have have done alot of research and found out that he personality is so in tuned with what I have read. He loves to be with us and loves running water. He is a lot to handle and gets into more than any other cat I have ever owned. I think that is why he was put up for adoption because the previous owners took the time and expense to have him neutered and front declawed. We are so lucky to have found him. He is loving and sweet and gets along well with our other cat and toy poodle.
